Preview: Joseph has already endured many tribulations yet his faith and love for God has protected Joseph from death. Even though Joseph might not see God’s plan yet, he trusts that he will be saved through God’s mercy.

Scripture Reading: Genesis 41:1-41.

Memory Verse: Genesis 41:54.

1. What was Pharaoh’s dream? Genesis 41:1-7.

2. Why was Pharaoh worried about his dream? Who among his magicians or servants were able to tell Pharaoh the meaning of his dream? Genesis 41:8.

3. Which of Pharaoh’s servants suggested Joseph? How did he know Joseph had the ability to interpret Pharaoh’s dream? Genesis 41:9-13.

4. Who did Joseph credit for dream interpretation? Genesis 41:15-16.

Note: Being humble and giving glory to God for all things is our way of assuring we’ll have His love and mercy. Facing obstacles on our own or taking credit for success without giving glory to God demonstrates a lack of love for the Father, which will lead us down a very lonely path.

5. What was the importance of Pharaoh having the second dream? Genesis 41:28, Genesis 41:32.

6. Who did Pharaoh appoint to direct Egypt through the next 14 years? Genesis 41:38-39.

7. What did Joseph do in the first seven years? Genesis 41:47-49.

8. Why was this so important? Genesis 41:54.

9. What was God’s plan for Joseph from the beginning? Discuss.

Note: God knows the potential in all of us, even if we do not see it. Through consistent prayer we demonstrate our faith and love for God. We receive His direction when we ask for it, and sometimes we get pushed down a path we would have never considered. In this case, Joseph endured all of his suffering so he would be exactly where he would be needed. Because Joseph was in Egypt and found favor with Pharaoh, he was able to save the lives of many throughout the land during the famine.
