Preview: A biblical look at sickness and death in God’s children.

Scripture Reading: II Kings 1:1-18.

Memory Verse: Micah 6:13.

1. Do we understand from the foregoing Scriptures that a sickness that leads to death is sometimes due to sin?
2. What were the results of King David’s sin? II Samuel 11:2-5, II Samuel 12:11-14 & II Samuel 12:18.
Note: Because of David’s sin his infant son became sick and died.
3. Did the Prophet Elisha have a sickness unto death? II Kings 13:14.
4. How do we know that Elisha was truly a man of God? II Kings 13:20-21.
Note: Some church people are like Job’s three friends, they believe that anyone who dies of a sickness must not be a true child of God. But Elisha had healed the sick, raised the dead, and even in death he had so much of God’s Spirit that contact with his dead bones restored a man to life.
5. Did Jacob become sick before he died? Genesis 48:1-2 & Genesis 49:33.
6. Do we get the impression that Abraham died without becoming sick? Genesis 25:7-8.
7. Is there an indication that David simply grew old and died without becoming ill? I Chronicles 29:26-28.
8. How did Paul describe the life and death of Tabitha? Acts 9:36-37.
9. How did Job’s friends describe the death of the righteous? Job 5:17-18 & Job 5:26.
10. What appointment must we all keep whether we are a saint or a sinner, sick or well? Psalm 90:10.
Note: All must die. The righteous may or may not become ill before death. That is no proof of their relationship with God.
