Preview: Our actions have consequences. This is the second of a two-part lesson on this subject.

Scripture Reading: Deuteronomy 30:15-20.

Memory Verse: Joshua 24:15.

1. Is it up to us to choose our fate according to the foregoing Scripture Reading and Memory Verse? Discuss.
2. Are righteous parents held accountable for their unrighteous children and are godly children accountable for their sinful parents? Explain. Ezekiel 18:5, Ezekiel 18:10-20.
Note: Psychologists today would have us believe there is no sin; therefore, there is no cause for guilt. Instead they teach that all of our problems are the result of bad parents. The actions of parents are often dismissed because they are provoked by an unruly child, but God commands parents to bring up their children in the love and instruction of the Lord. As adults, all must answer for his or her own actions.
3. How does God’s mercy excuse unrepentant sinners? Numbers 14:18, Numbers 14:22-23.
4. Who is held accountable for the destruction of the wicked if we fail to warn them of their sins? Ezekiel 33:8-9.
5. Why did God destroy the world with water? Genesis 6:5-7.
6. What is the punishment for willful transgressors today? Hebrews 10:26-29.
Note: God is merciful but His mercy does not change His promises. He has declared that the soul that sins will die. Just as He once destroyed the world by water, He will one day send a fiery destruction upon all who disobey Him.
7. What are some of the last day predictions for a nation who does not fear and obey the Lord? Isaiah 3:4-5, Isaiah 3:9, Isaiah 3:11-12.
Note: Can we see this being fulfilled today?
8. Who has authority to execute Judgment? John 5:25-29.
9. What affect does evil have on many people because it does not always receive immediate punishment? Ecclesiastes 8:11.
10. Is this an acceptable excuse with God? Why not? Ezekiel 8:12, Ezekiel 8:17-18.
Note: Just because the wicked appear to prosper at times does not mean that they have escaped the wrath of God. He has an all seeing eye, and He will reward every man according to their works.
