Preview: Faith heroes. This is the third part of a thirteen-part series of lessons on this subject.

Scripture Reading: Genesis 11:1-9.

Memory Verse: Genesis 10:32.

1. Can we conclude from the foregoing Scriptures that man had almost forsaken God after the flood? Discuss.
2. Where did Abram’s father attempt to move his family before his death? Genesis 11:26-32.
Note: Evidently, when God first called Abram to go to Canaan, his father decided to move with him, but God had called Abram to separate himself from his family as well as his country. He wanted him separated from anyone or thing that might influence false worship, even his own father.
3. How did Stephen describe Abram’s call from God? Acts 6:8-12, Acts 7:1-4.
4. How did Abram respond to this second call? Genesis 12:4-8.
Note: According to Genesis 11:10-26 (Abraham) Abram was a descendant of Noah’s son Shem. He was born in a heathen nation that was into idol worship. Even so, when God called him to separate himself from that influence, he was willing to obey. However, he must have felt an obligation to care for his father, but God did not intend for Terah to enter Canaan. It is possible that Terah had taken his idols with him. Nevertheless, Abram did take Lot.
5. How did God separate Abram and Lot? Genesis 13:1-12.
6. What two great promises did God give to Abram after he proved his faith? Genesis 15:1-7.
7. Why did God change Abram’s name to Abraham? Genesis 17:1-8.
8. Why did God choose this man to be the father of many nations? Genesis 18:17-19.
Note: God knew his heart. He saw his faith by his actions and knew that he would be a mighty witness in word and deeds. When God looks at you, what kind of witness does He see?
9. How do we know that Abraham’s faith and obedience was responsible for his fellowship with God? Genesis 26:5, Hebrews 11:17, James 2:21-24.
10. Who was Jesus Christ our Savior's lineage through? Hebrews 2:9, Hebrews 2:16, Galatians 3:8, Genesis 3:16-17.
11. How does this affect our lives as true witnesses? Galatians 3:13-14, Galatians 3:26-29.
Note: We must have the same kind of faith and obedience that Abraham displayed, then we also will be heirs of the same promise and our names will be in God’s hall of faith. We can be a part of that great cloud of witnesses.
