Preview: With our nature changed, the need for growth is urgent. Without it we soon die. With this lesson, we begin the study of some of the requirements for growth. This is the first part of a two-part lesson on this subject.

Scripture Reading: II Peter 3:9-14.

Memory Verse: II Peter 3:17.

1. What is one thing we are commanded to do? II Peter 3:18.
2. How do we grow? II Peter 1:5 (first part)
Note: Diligence 1) Persevering application. 2) The attention legally expected or required of a person. Webster.
3. How diligently must we seek God? Jeremiah 29:13.
4. What is one of the first things we will do when we give God our heart? Acts 2:37-38.
5. What proves we have found God? Acts 2:41-42.
6. What did Jesus call this change? John 3:3.
Note: One of the serious failures in our Churches today is the fact that most Church members have not experienced that change. If one can gladly receive God’s Word when it is contrary to his thought and natural desires it is an indication that one is converted. To receive God’s Word means that we do what it says.
7. What does it indicate when we speak the Word and do not obey? Matthew 15:7-8.
8. Where will our thoughts be if our hearts are right with God? Psalm 1:2.
9. With what natural instincts is diligence compared? Matthew 5:6.
Note: When one is hungry and clean food is set before him it is unnecessary to urge him to eat or to drink when one is thirsty and proper drink is provided. So when one hungers and thirsts after righteousness it will not be necessary to insist that he hear the will of God, he will learn of his own accord.
